Barren Souls

Madalynn is a 24-year-old aspiring author who transferred to Aurora University in Fall 2022 to continue her Bachelor's degree. She transferred from Waubonsee Community College and has plans to continue her education to earn a Master's in English as well as a Master's of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. Madalynn hopes to one day publish a novel but also plans to teach English at the college level.

The little plot of land sits alone

Amongst the tall shadows.

Greenery grows every direction,

As little souls flutter in and out.

Having run out of soil

To stretch its knotted legs,

Starving souls settle

For an iron escape.

Life passes life by

Spent souls carry on

In silence.
